We would like to thank our crews and our sub contractors crews for the time they put in away from their families to help restore power in the North East. We are proud to have been chosen to come back next year to continue to help restore power to this region. Left out for Fitchburg, MA bracing for the impact of Hurricane Sandy. Still could use a few more lineman.

Hurricane Isaac made landfall August 28th, 2012 in Louisiana, one day from the 7yr anniversary of Katrina. Not long after it made landfall, it pushed back into the gulf, before making landfall a second time. Isaac was taking its sweet time, moving 6ph, causing major flooding for Louisiana, and Mississippi. Isaac, now a tropical depression, continues to cause destruction as it moves northwest thru the country.
Our crews rode out the storm in the city of Plaquemine. They worked thru the storm before and as the eye passed over at 4:30pm. Plaquemine has a little of 12,000 customers, our crews helped restore 99% of the power within 12 hours. Looks like we have our first major storm of the season and its headed towards the Gulf of Mexico. Crews all over the country are already being called to be held on standby preparing for the damage that may inflict FL, AL, & MS. Tropical Storm Issac is predicted to become a hurricane Tuesday Morning.
We, here at Grays Power Supply, are monitoring the storm round the clock, as well as preparing our departure. We plan on leaving out for Daytona Beach, FL. tommorrow. Looks like we got more bad weather rolling into the New England area this evening. We will be making our way there in preparation to help out in case they need us.
The storm on June 29, 2012 was part of a massive straight line wind storm that traveled close to 700 miles in 10 hours, affecting 10 states and leaving around 4.3 million people without power. Officials are saying this storm was similar to a hurricane without warning, producing winds greater than 75mph.
Our crews are working between Dublin and Pulaski, VA and Princeton and Bluefield, WV. Storm work is predicted to last until this weekend. We are working with Appalachian Power, a unit of American Electric Power Co. Additional storms coming thru Sunday after the Derecho storm caused more outages to the Wytheville and Woodlawn Virginia areas. As of last night, 261,732 customers out of 573,000 have been restored in APCOs service territory. 192,387 remain out in West Virginia, and 118,881 in Virginia. |
